20 April 2007
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0167
ether (TAME), MTBE, 1 ,2-DCA and 1 ,2-dibromoethane (EDB) in accordance with EPA
Method 826013 .
Laboratory reports for the soil analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain-of-custody (COC) documentation will be presented in a report
with findings and recommendations. Soil sampling procedures are described in Section 4. 1 ,
3 .5. DEVELOPMENT AND SURVEY
Following well installation, the extraction well will be developed to maximize water flow and
minimize the amount of fine-grained sediment drawn into the well during pumping or bailing. The
new wells will also be surveyed by a state licensed surveyor. Procedures for well installation,
development and surveying are presented in Sections 4.3 . and 4.3 . 1 . .
3 . 6, GROUNDWATER EXTRACTION/AQUIFER PUMPING TEST
AGE proposes to utilize the newly-installed extraction well EW- 1 to perform an 8-hour step
draw-down pumping test and a 24-hour aquifer constant rate pumping test at the site to : 1 ) evaluate
the general zones of capture (radii of influence) achievable during ground water extraction at the site,
2) obtain general aquifer characteristics such as hydraulic conductivity, storafivity, transmissivity,
and draw-down at a constant pumping rate, and 3) evaluate the feasibility of ground water extraction
as a remedial alternative at the site.
A constant ground water pumping rate for the 24-hour aquifer pumping test will be based on the
results of the 8-hour pumping test and the availability of storage for the produced water. If it appears
that steady state conditions have not been achieved at the end of the 24-hour test, the test period will
be increased to 48-hours. The pumping test may required up to 72-hours because of the slow
percolation of water the stratified deposit commonly found in the Central Valley alluvial soils. In no
event should the aquifer test be terminated prior to aquifer stabilization because the limited data may
not exhibit the nature of the aquifer.
During the 8-hour pump test, grab ground water samples will be taken from the effluent line during
selected portions of the pump-test, approximately every two hours. The ground water samples will
be collected into laboratory-supplied 40-milliliter(ml) volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials. Care
will be taken to ensure that visible air bubbles are not present in the vials after filling and capping.
Following collection the samples will be appropriately labeled, placed on ice and kept in a cooler
until delivered to a DHS-certified analytical laboratory for analysis. Chain of custody (COC)
protocols will be used to document sample custody transfer from the field to the laboratory; a COC
form will accompany the samples. All pumping test procedures are described in Section 4.3 .2. ,
Advanced GeoEnviromnental, Inc.
