13 August 2004
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0167
2. 1 . PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
A soil boring permit will be obtained from the EHD for each boring location. A health and safety
plan has been prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Guidance Manual for
Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
Administration, U. S . Coast Guard and U.S . Environmental Protection Agency, 1985) and is on file
with the EHD; the health and safety plan will be revised as necessary. Prior to mobilization, the area
of excavation will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained through Underground Service
Alert,
2.2 . CONE PENETROMETER TEST (CPT)
AGE proposes to advance one paired CPT soil boring at the site (Figure 2) as part of site assessment
activities to characterize lithology, identify potential contaminant-migration pathways and to assess
the vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted ground water.
2.2. 1 . CPT Boring Location
The proposed boring location will be immediately east of the former dispenser location, near
monitoring well MW-1 , to further delineate vertical ground water contamination directly at the
source area. The CPT borings shall be advanced to approximately 125 feet below surface grade (bsg)
utilizing a 25-ton truck-mounted CPT drill rig equipped with 2-inch diameter hollow-stem rods;
however, total depth of the boring may vary according to geologic conditions and field evidence of
impacted media encountered during boring advancement.
2.2.2 CPT Ground Water Sample Collection and Analysis
Grab ground water samples will be collected in selected intervals of saturated porous and permeable
soil. Except for depth intervals screened by the current monitoring well network, sampling intervals
will be selected based on interpretation of lithologic data from the initial CPT boring with an
objective of sampling significant hydrogeologic units , Ground water sampling procedures are
outlined in section 3 .2. Selected ground water samples will be analyzed by a State of California
Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory for the following constituents :
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d) by EPA
Method 8015 Modified; and
Advanced GmEnvironmental, Inc.
