FIELD PROCEDURES
All field procedures will be overseen by anAGE representative under the supervision of a California
Registered Geologist. Procedures forthe advancement of the CPT and monitoring wellpilot borings,
soil sampling, monitoring well completion, groundwater sampling, equipment decontamination and
sample shipment are outlined below.
3 . 1 . CPT ADVANCEMENT
The CPT soil boring will be advanced to a depth of approximately 125 feet bsg utilizing a 25-ton
truck-mounted CPT drill rig equipped with 2-inch diameter hollow-stem rods. At the CPT location,
the first soil boring will utilize a hydraulic ram to advance a piezocone to the desired depth. Soil
parameters such as cone bearing, sleeve friction, friction ratio and pore water pressure will be
measured as the piezocone is advanced. The data will be utilized to obtain a computer-generated
interpretation of the penetrated soil lithology. Rinseate generated during drilling activities will be
containerized in properly labeled Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved 55-gallon drums,
and stored on-site in an area lacking public access. Disposal alternatives will be evaluated at a later
date based on laboratory results of rinseate.
3 .2. CPT GROUND WATER SAMPLING
A second, or paired, soil boring will be located adjacent to the first CPT boring (Figure 2) for ground
water sample collection. Based on CPT findings, discrete grab ground water samples will be
collected in significant intervals of porous and permeable strata. A HydroPunch sample tool will be
pushed into the specified zone, then withdrawn approximately three feet to expose an inlet screen.
The interior of the sampling tool fills with water and a 1 -inch outer diameter (O.D .) stainless steel
bailer will be lowered and utilized to extract a groundwater sample. Grab groundwater samples will
be collected in selected intervals of porous and permeable material.
Grab ground water samples will be collected into laboratory-supplied 40-milliliter (ml) volatile
organic analysis (VOA) vials containing 0.5-m1 of hydrochloric acid as preservative and one-liter
amber glass containers without sample preservative. Care will be taken to ensure that visible air
bubbles are not present in the vials after filling and capping. Following sample collection, the
samples will be appropriately labeled and placed on ice and transported under chain of custody to
a DHS-certified laboratory.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
A
