5.0 Personal Protective Equipment and Engineering Controls <br /> a <br /> PPE will be worn during all field activities. The specifications for the levels of PPE that may be <br /> L I <br /> required and the initial levels of PPE are presented below. Based on.actual field conditions and <br /> on-site monitoring activities, modification in the PPE may be required. Modifications may <br /> , <br /> include PPE upgrades to a higher degree of protection, downgrades, or substitutions such as use <br /> of engineering controls. The SSHO may modify the initial levels of PPE in response to <br /> additional site information, with the approval of the SHM. The initial selection of PPE is based <br /> on a hazard assessment, including a review of the existing analytical data and related <br /> toxicological information and the proposed activities. Based o'' this analysis, field sampling <br /> activities shall be initiated using Modified Level D. <br /> 1' 5.1 Levels of Protection , <br /> 3 L <br /> a Personnel working within the Exclusion Zone shall be require4 to wear, as a minimum <br /> Modified Level D. The following is required as a minimum for: <br /> • Normal work clothes or coveralls <br /> L • Leather, chemical-resistant sole, steel toed and steel shank boots. The steel-toed <br /> boots shall meet ANSI standard Z41-1983, Safety-Toe footwear, Classification 75 <br /> L • Eye protection such as face shields, goggles, or safety:glasses with side shields <br /> that meet ANSI Standard Z78.1-1979 <br /> r'` • Hard hats meeting ANSI Standard Z889.1-1986 Class A, B and C <br /> U k <br /> • Hearing protection, such as ear muffs or disposable plugs (as required) ' <br /> Disposable Tyvek® or cotton coveralls (as required) " <br /> l <br /> } • Nitrile gloves will be worn during sampling activities <br /> 1 � <br /> • Leather gloves can be worn during drilling activities <br /> LlBased on current knowledge of the Site, it is not expected that the level of protection will need to <br /> be upgraded to Level C.
