• All personnel who conduct work in Level C PP_E must be clean-shaven to
eliminate the possibility'of improper respirator fit
i
During all Level C activities or when particular conditions present a substantial risk toP ersonnel
(both physical and chemical),the buddy system will be implemented. A buddy system requires
that two or three people work as a team; each looking out for each other. Buddies must maintain
t
continuous line-of-site contact with onel another and be in a position to physically assist should
rescue be necessary. {
5.2 Reassessment of Personal Protection Program
The Level of Protection provided by PPE selection shall be upgraded or downgraded based upon
action limits from instrument readings, a change in site conditions, or findings from
investigations.
i
When a significant change occurs, the hazards shall be reassessed. Some indicators of the need
for reassessment are: I
R
Change in job tasks during a work phase
• Change of season/weather k
Contaminants other than those previously identified are being handled
j • Change in work scope that affects the degree of contact with contaminants
j • When two separate tasks are being conducted simultaneously (e.g., one
non-intrusive and one intrusive), the higher level of protection will be used
If the Level of Protection is to be downgraded, then personnel will continue work in the original f
Level of Protection until IT or Contractor HSO approves. If tlxe Level of Protection is to be
upgraded, the personnel will leave the affected area and don the higher level of protection.
LChanges will be noted in the HASP and rationale provided.
5.3 Engineering Controls
Ll
! Whenever possible, before increasing the level of PPE required, engineering controls will be
utilized to minimize hazards at the Site. Examples of engineering controls include using a water
spray to suppress dust, or use of fans to increase ventilation.
. cDPN:IConsidtingldataLVwre"rojectsWJ7177840Zaa.doc 5_
' 1217100
k
