Disposable Tyvek®or cloth coverall(when in direct contact with materials that are
suspected to be contaminated).
Level C protection may be required if PID readings consistently exceed 50 ppm in the worker's breathing
Lzone. Level C will consist of Level D protection, as well as the following additional protection.
1. Safety glasses, splash goggles, or face shield.
2. OSHA/NIOSH-approved half-face or full-face air-purifying.respirator with organic vapor.
cartridges.
LIf the OVM readings consistently exceed 200 ppm in the workers breathing zone, all work shall stop and
the exclusion zone shall be evacuated.
L Site Secu
ft
Access to the work area will be restricted to authorized personnel. All authorized visitors must contact the
Safety Officer prior to entering and exiting the exclusion zone.
LRecord Keeping
LThe Safety Officer will maintain all site safety records pertaining to this site investigation.
Air Monitoring
LIf warranted, based on detected odors, the Safety Officer(or another qualified person designated by the
Safety Officer)will conduct periodic air monitoring in the work area using a photoionization detector(PID).
LThe meter will be calibrated at the start of each work period. Total organic vapor measurements will be
used to determine the appropriate levels of respiratory protection, and identify conditions that would
Lrequire site evacuation.
Additional Training and Information
LPrior to any field exploration, the Safety Officer will conduct training on any health and safety related
issues that are unique or specifically germane to the project.
