116 <br />' Regardless of ambient temperature, physiological monitoring will be implemented if heat <br /> ' stress is experienced <br /> If symptoms of heat stress are observed, the following procedures will be implemented. <br /> ' • Instruct the affected person to lie down m a I <br /> Pe cool, area or au-conditioned <br /> room and elevate feet Abbreviated decontamination procedures may be <br /> followed <br /> • Summon medical support, if appropriate This is required in all cases of heat <br /> ' stroke or unconsciousness. <br /> Cold Stress Prevention <br /> Due to the moderate climate at the job site, it is not anticipated that cold stress will be a <br /> concern Personnel should be unformed that prolonged exposure to cold without proper <br /> clotting may impair their ability to work safely To prevent such occurrence, the following <br /> measures should be implemented <br /> Project workers should be provided with warm clothing, such as mittens, heavy <br /> socks, etc , when the air temperature is below 45T Protective clothing, such as <br /> Tyvek or other disposable coveralls, may be used to shield employees from the <br /> wind <br /> • When the air temperature is below 35'F, clothing for warmth, in addition to <br /> chemical protective clothing, will be provided to employees This should <br /> include <br /> - Insulated suits, such as whole body thermal underwear <br /> - Wool socks or polypropylene socks to keep moisture off the feet <br /> - Insulated gloves <br /> - Insulated boots <br /> - Insulated head cover such as hard hat, winter liner, or knit cap <br />' - Insulated jacket, with wind and water resistant outer layer <br /> • At au temperatures below 357, the following work practices must be <br />' implemented: <br /> - If the clothing of a site worker might become wet on the Job site, the outer <br /> layer of clothing must be water impermeable <br /> - If a project worker's underclothing becomes wet in any way, the worker must <br /> change into dry clothing immediately If the clothing becomes wet from <br /> sweating (and the employee is not uncomfortable), the employee may finish the <br /> task at hand prior to changing into dry clothing <br /> MZ/11-29-94/RHs/HASP/94-0037JAF 4-15 <br />
