This request is based on monitoring results since 1989 which show
nondetectable levels of total petroleum hydrocarbons in the diesel and gasoline ranges, benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene for these wells. You also request cessation of total lead
monitoring for all nine wells based on sporadic detection of trace levels at some MWs, and the
absence of future sources of lead.
I concur that the monitoring frequency of MWs 5 and 6 needs to be reduced. However, the reduced
frequency should be adequate enough to cover the seasonal changes within a year. I also concur
with your request to eliminate the total lead monitoring. Therefore, your monitoring and reporting
program (MRP) will be revised by 9 August 1993 to require semi-annual monitoring of MWs 5 and
6, and delete the total lead monitoring requirement for all the MWs. By 30 July 1993, I request
that you submit your comments to this office so that I may include them in the revised MRP.
Please call me at (916) 255-3049 if you have any questions.
PHILI S.
