The threat of an active shooter/Robber is a possibility anywhere. As with any
crisis situation, communications are essential to a safe outcome.
If the following situation should arise, attempt to follow these listed procedures.
A person (Outside party or employee) attempts to rob the Auction or
create other mayhem.
1/ If in the immediate area, remain calm and attempt to cooperate with the
party(s) in question.
2/ If a Shooter/Robber does enter our facility, Employee's on the outside
of the area and not under the control of the shooter/robber should call 911
and Security. Give the police the following information, the location and a
description of the Shooter/Robber, how many suspects there are involved,
suspect vehicle license plate, Etc., IF POSSIBLE. Additional information
for the police, such as the sex of the suspect, their clothing, the ethnic
origin of the suspect and any general characteristics. Be aware that our
main desk employee's will not be able to assist anyone at that time as this
is the area that a shooter/robber will probably be occupying.
3/ Those in the local area should attempt to cooperate with the
Shooter/Robber if at all possible. The front office manager/supervisor
should have the employee at the desk that contains the panic button,
activate that button. Under NO circumstances attempt to overpower them
with force. This should/would be a last resort. Security will be able to
assist when the police arrive. The Security or Safety Manager, if present
and not directly involved, will broadcast over Radio Channel #1 and the
facilities PA system the following code words "CODE BLUE" and the
building location. This will alert other employees to remain outside of the
problem area.
4/ Evacuation of the immediate facility should be attempted although it
may not be possible due to the location of the Shooter/Robber, as these
evacuation routes are usually open and marked for that purpose and
usually within sight of the Shooter/Robber. Evacuation should be
attempted thru windows or back doors.
5/ It is crucial not to assume help will quickly come to evacuate the
location as Shooter/Robber incidents are the most chaotic, confusing and
difficult scenes to manage. The first responder's priority will be to contain
the Shooter/Robber.
6/ If able to evacuate the building have an escape route in mind, bring a
cell phone along (If Available), keep yours hands visible and do not stop to
12
