If you are indoors, Practice "Duck, Cover and Hold". Stay there, do not attempt to run outside. Get under a sturdy desk, table or stand in a corner or doorway. Stay away from any windows. If you are outside, get into an open area and stay away from buildings, walls, power lines and trees. Do not attempt to run or walk while the shaking is going on. The best position would be kneeling or sitting down. If you are driving, stop the vehicle. Avoid any buildings and power lines. DO NOT stop on any of our bridges. DO NOT attempt to leave your vehicle until the shaking is over. If the earthquake occurs during an Auction, attempt to remain calm. DO NOT RUSH FOR THE EXITS. Crouch down and cover your head and neck with your hands and arms. After the shaking stops: Expect aftershocks, the secondary waves are usually less violent, but never the less can do additional damage to structures already weakened by the initial shock wave.
