i
core can be visually examined. Selected portions can be cut and sealed with
plastic caps for laboratory analysis.
The probe unit was set up on the location marked GP-1 as shown on PLATE 11.
Work started at 0935; the first core was taken from 6' to 8'. It consisted of slightly
moist tan to light brown clay; firm but moderately plastic, with occasional
inclusions of carbonaceous matter. There were no odors or visible contamination.
A portion of the core at 7' was preserved, but Jeffrey Wong from the San Joaquin
County EHD, said that analysis was not required.
The pipe & core barrel were decontaminated with Alconox and clean water, and
were pushed & hammered to 10 feet, where another core was taken. It consisted
of tan to light brown clay as above, slightly more moist, moderate plasticity;
grading to sandy, silty tan clay. Occassional black carbonaceous fragments.
There were no odors or evidence of contamination. A portion of the core at 11
feet was preserved for analysis.
After again decontaminating equipment, the core barrel was driven to 16 feet
below grade, and a 2 foot core taken. It consisted of brown to light brown clay,
• very sticky & plastic; almost dry; grading to tan to brown silty sand. A fragment of
red clay tile was present in the middle. A portion of the core at 17 feet was
preserved for analysis.
After decontaminating equipment, the core barrel was driven to 22', and a core
taken from 22' to 24'. It consisted of tan to brown clay, crumbly, dry; grading to
moist, silty sand. Water was noted on the core barrel at about 23 feet.
A hydropunch type tool was run to 25 feet, and opened. Small diameter plastic
tubing was run to bottom; it showed very slow water entry. Details of lithology and
other information are shown on PLATE III. Tools were left in the hole and the
probe truck relocated to GP-2 as shown on PLATE ll.
Work began at 1100 hours at the location selected for GP-2. Tools were
advanced to 6 feet, and a core taken from 6' to 8'. It consisted of tan to light
brown clay, slightly damp & slightly plastic; with a few sand grains. There were
no odors or discoloration. A portion of the core at 7 feet was preserved, but was
not to be analyzed.
After decontaminating equipment, the core barrel was driven to 10 feet bgl, and a
core taken from 10' to 12'. The core consisted of tan to brown silty clay, fairly soft
& moist, with some inclusions of iron oxide staining. It graded to very moist, tan to
• brown silty, clayey sand. No odor or discoloration was noted, and a portion of the
core at 11 feet was preserved for analysis.
3
