,f
. Ms. Beth Thayer
Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
Page 3
for tomato processing. The gradient direction and magnitude at
Union Ice is also consistent with the site located approximately
2000 feet due northwest (Site no. 2 on the RESNA 12/20/94 report) .
As expected from their positions relative to Ragu, the gradient
directions are approximately the same, but the closer site (no. 2)
has a larger gradient magnitude ( . 007) .
In summary, a considerable amount of technical and financial
resources have been expended at this site. Using very reasonable
and well documented professional judgement and with the full
concurrence of the local LUFT agency, a water sample was collected
immediately adjacent to the former tank pits in the hydraulically
downgradient direction. The laboratory report for this sample
indicated all petroleum hydrocarbon analytes were below detection.
Moreover, a well installed directly beneath the hottest portion
(and downgradient of much) of the most contaminated material which
was excavated has consistently shown levels of dissolved petroleum
hydrocarbon constituents below MCLS.
On behalf of Nor-Cal Beverage we are formally requesting site
closure and permission to abandon the existing monitoring well.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss this site
further please contact me at your very earliest convenience.
Respectfully,
ussell W.• Juncal
CA Registered Geologist no. 3864
cc: D. Hinson
P. Riddle
