Mike Infurna [EH]
From: Rex Smith [RS mith@horizonenvironmental.net]
Sent: Wednesday, June 13, 2007 5:14 PM
To: Mike Infurna [EH)
Subject: RE: Quik Stop#39
Mike, your points are noted. Horizon will proceed to take care of the well box/grout items, probably later this
month. No need for a letter.
Did you mean 90 days (next sampling event)? Clamping the pump tubing should remedy the water backflow
problem; Horizon will institute that procedure. Will let techs know to have sufficient ice for proper sample storage.
Rex
From: Mike Infurna [EH] [mailto:MInfurna@sjcehd.com]
Sent: Wednesday, June 13, 2007 3:36 PM
To: Rex Smith
Subject: Quik Stop #39
Rex,
I finally met up with your tech at this site. Warm day for the boy. He looked tired.
I noticed some things I would like you to take care of at'our' level. But after reading them if you want, I'll send off
an official letter to Quik Stop and direct them to have them done within 30-days/by next sampling event.
1- I noticed three well box lids that can not be bolted down. Joe said you/? had plans to replace/fix these?OK. I'll
be at the next quarterly sampling event to verify the corrections.
2-We require at least an 80% recharge of the DTW in purged monitoring wells. I noticed that after the total purge
volume has been extracted, your tech disconnects the power to the submergeble pump at the truck battery with
the pump remaining in the well. I also noticed that all the water in the tubing laying on the truck bed drains BACK
INTO the well. I don't know the volume of this return water but I don't like to see it go back in. I advised Joe to
either, (A)-pull the pump and tubing VERY quickly or(B)-and better, clamp off the tubing so NO water returns
back into the well casing so an accurate DTW can be taken to verify the minimum 80% recharge.
3- It's nearly 100 degrees outside. Please make sure that the techs take this into consideration and bring MORE
sample temperature insurance, Le: more ice.
4- MW-7 grout inside the traffic box is down nearly 3'bgs. THis should have been corrected back in June 06 at
the first sampling event. MW-7 needs to be topped off so that the hardened grout is INSIDE the traffic box, ideally
within the box's lower half. THis well also has a broken rim and the lid cannot be bolted down. I'll allow this top off
to occur during box replacement activities.
5-Call me for an appointment for the THIRD QUARTER sampling event. Time and date please. I'll be inspecting
every well box. Each must have a securing mechanism for the lid to the box, a tight water proof locking well
casing cap, and the grout is to be inside the lower half of the traffic box and the casing top in the upper half of the
box. Evidence of water entering the box will require either box repositioning (raising)or a watertight seal
installation.
questions? email or call me on my office phone at (209)468-3454
6/14/2007
