Quik Stop Station No 039 February 28,2000
Stockton California Subsurface Site Assessment
Drilling and Soil Sampling
On November 18, 1999, a Horizon geologist observed the drilling of soil bonngs MW-1,
MW-2, and MW-3 The borings were drilled and sampled using a truck-mounted Mobile
B-61 drill rig equipped with 8-inch diameter hollow-stem augers Drilling and sampling
activities were performed by V&W Drilling (V&W), a C-57 licensed contractor from Rio
Vista, California
Borings MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 were advanced to depths of approximately 61 to 61%
feet During drilling, soil samples were collected from the borings at five-foot intervals or
less, from the ground surface to the total depth of each boring Soil samples and cuttings
were screened for the presence of petroleum hydrocarbon vapors with a portable organic
vapor meter (OVM) The OVM readings noted during drilling were recorded on the soil
bonng logs, which contain soil descriptions and well completion data (Appendix C) All
soil samples were contained in chilled storage for transport to the laboratory for the
requested analyses
Sediments encountered during the drilling of the three borings consisted of alternating layers
of silty sand (SM) and clayey to sandy silt (ML) to the total depth of the borings at
approximately 61 to 611/2 feet bsg The sediments from the borings were classified using
the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) A copy of the USCS is shown on the
Boring Log Symbol Key in Appendix C Groundwater was encountered in the borings at
depths of approximately 55 feet bsg
Soil cuttings generated during the drilling operations were stockpiled on and covered with
plastic and remained onsite until subsequent disposal in late December 1999 The soil
cuttings were screened with an OVM, and four soil samples were collected from the
stockpile for laboratory analysis
7039-12 rpt 4 HORIZON ENVIRONMENTAL INC
