Project No. 013-10101
Page No. 3
If a higher level of due diligence is desired relative to potential subsurface impacts associated with the
former on site hydraulic hoist, Krazan could conduct a limited subsurface soil assessment to assess the
presence or absence of petroleum hydrocarbons and polychlorinated biphenyls in the vicinity of the
former hoist.
4.0 REGIONAL GEOLOGY AND HYDROGEOLOGY
The subject site is located within the San Joaquin Valley, a broad structural trough bound by the Sierra
Nevada and Coast Ranges of California. The San Joaquin Valley, which comprises the southern portion
of the Great Valley of California, has been filled with several thousand feet of sedimentary deposits.
Sediments in the eastern valley, derived from the erosion of the Sierra Nevada, have been deposited by
major to minor west-flowing drainages and their tributaries. Near-surface sediments are dominated by
sands and silty sands with lesser silts, minor clays, and gravel. The sedimentary deposits in the region
form large coalescing alluvial fans with gentle slopes.
According to the State of California Department of Water Resources(DWR)map entitled"Lines of Equal
Elevations of Water in Wells, Spring, 2007' groundwater in the area is reported to be first encountered at
a depth of approximately 50 to 55 feet bgs. The groundwater flow direction in the area of the subject site
is generally towards the east.
5.0 PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF WORK
The purpose of the Phase II LSI is to preliminarily assess the subsurface soil at the locations of the active
and inactive wash racks and associated clarifiers/drains, and the inactive hydraulic hoist based on the past
industrial uses of the subject site since the early-1970s. The scope of work includes advancing vertical,
direct-push soil borings in the areas of environmental concern for the collection of base samples from
each borings for submittal to a State-certified analytical laboratory for chemical analysis of petroleum
hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds, selected heavy metals, and polychlorinated biphenyl fluids to
assess the presence or absence of subsurface impacts from the referenced constituents.
Based on the results of this subsurface investigation, the need for further investigation, if necessary, will
then be evaluated.
6.0 METHODOLOGY
KRAZAN&ASSOCIATES,INC.
Conducting Assessments Nationwide
1310101 United Rentals Workplan
