Project No. 013-10101
Page No.4
The methods used to accomplish the objective and scope of this project is listed below.
Pre-field Activities
• A Site Health&Safety Plan(SHSP)has been developed(included herein)to accompany the field
activities to be conducted at the site. The SHSP will identify potential hazards to personnel
working at the site, protocol for environmental monitoring, personal protective equipment,
medical surveillance requirements, site control measures, and emergency procedures.
• The subject site street comers have been marked with white paint and Underground Service Alert
(USA) has been notified so that any underground utilities within the right of way associated with
USA's subscribers can be identified.
• Before drilling, each boring location will be marked with white paint, and a magnetometer will be
used to detect any subsurface piping.
Field Activities
• Ten soil borings will be advanced at the subject site, at each end of the clarifiers and wash racks,
and adjacent to the drains and hydraulic hoist. Refer to Figure 2 for boring locations.
• The borings will be advanced by a truck or track-mounted Geoprobe direct-push rig. It may be
necessary to adjust boring locations based on above ground and subsurface utilities and/or field
conditions.
• The borings will be advanced to a maximum depth of approximately 15 feet bgs in the locations
of the hydraulic hoist and clarifiers, and approximately three feet bgs adjacent to the wash rack
drainage features. A photo-ionization detector (PID) will be used to measure boring readings,
and visual observations will be conducted for chemical odor and/or soil discoloration. The PID
readings will be recorded on field notes and included in the corresponding boring logs. The PID
is a direct reading real-time analyzer that can detect most of the volatile PHCs present in the
vapor phase of petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted soils.
• Soils will be logged in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System and included on
the corresponding boring logs beginning at the ground surface to the bottom of each boring. The
boring logs will be included in the final report.
• Soil samples will be collected from the base of each boring as the scope of work for this
assessment is preliminary. The maximum vertical extent of soil impact, if any, will be defined by
soil samples from two consecutive five-foot intervals for which laboratory analyses determine
they do not contain detectable COCs,if warranted.
KRAZAN&ASSOCIATES,INC.
Conducting Assessments Nationwide
1310101 Uniud Rmwls Workplan
