Glossary <br /> OF <br /> REFERENCE TERMS <br /> Sludge conditioning The process of adding a filter aid to the collected sludge prior <br /> to dewatering. <br /> Spill containment A container which is used to contain a spill which is caused by <br /> a leak in a chemical tank or line. <br /> Tank integrity The condition of a tank in regards to its ability to contain the <br /> material that it holds. <br /> Tote A 275-gallon intermediate bulk container used to store <br /> chemicals. <br /> Transporter a certified carrier for the disposal of sludge to an approved <br /> landfill. <br /> Treatment chemical The chemicals used in the wastewater treatment process for <br /> coagulation and flocculation. <br /> Trench grates Any grate that covers an open pit. A system of grates which <br /> prevent large debris from entering into the wastewater <br /> treatment plant. <br /> Turbidity wedge A small hand-held device used to provide a <br /> number reference for comparison of water <br /> clarity. <br /> Upset condition Any condition that the local regulatory agency <br /> determines to be an upset. <br /> Vendor A supplier of materials and services to the <br /> market center. Turbidity wedge <br /> Viscosity A measure of the resistance of a fluid to flow. For liquids, <br /> viscosity increases with decreasing temperature. <br /> APPENDIX PAGE 18 <br />
