Glossary <br /> OF <br /> REFERENCE TERMS <br /> Rag test A test to check the dewatering ability of sludge before it is <br /> processed. The procedure is to place a small amount of sludge <br /> in a shop towel. The shop towel is then squeezed to free any <br /> water in the sludge. If any sludge sprays from the cloth, the <br /> sludge requires more filter aid. <br /> Regulatory authority The federal, state or local agency that regulates wastewater <br /> discharges from the facility. <br /> Sample containers The proper container which has the required preservatives for <br /> use in compliance testing. These containers should be <br /> supplied from the laboratory doing the testing. <br /> Sampling location The site where compliance samples are to be taken as <br /> determined by the regulatory authority. <br /> Secondary operator The person trained to operate the wastewater treatment plant <br /> when the primary operator is not available. <br /> Shaker screen A piece of equipment that uses a vibrating <br /> screen to filter out large solids before the <br /> wastewater is sent to the treatment plant. <br /> Shaker screen <br /> Skimmer blade The arm on top of the clarifier used to <br /> remove sludge from the surface of the water. <br /> Skimmer blade <br /> Sludge Any solid material containing large amounts <br /> of entrained water collected during the <br /> treatment of wastewater. <br /> RYl F y.•• ,' .
