Attachment A
LEAD ACCOUNT SAFETY PROCEDURES
• All Service and Sales staff must determine if a potential customer may be considered a
Lead Account. Customer must be asked if the merchandise may be contaminated with
lead. Ask for SDS's and forward to the Safety Department(c/o Al Perez) and
Environmental Department(c/o Tom Dikos)for review prior to accepting the account.
• Customer will handle and load all contaminated merchandise into slings and/or water-
soluble bags. Customer must sea] all water soluble bags before pick-up. Sling carts must
be vacuumed or wet-wiped by customer to remove visible dust prior to pick-up.
Typically, used bath towels will be considered non-contaminated.
• RSR's and production employees must wear nitrile gloves while handling soiled
merchandise, slings, carts and bags. No other PPE is required. Remember, AUS
em to ees must not be allowed to directIv handle or sort contaminated merchandise.
• When using sling carts, the RSR or customer must cover the exposed garments with the
sewn-in flap. This must be done before loading the carts into the truck. Provide a dock
plate or lift gate as needed to safely load and unload sling carts on to the truck. Slings
with flaps can be ordered from Storms Industries or Ryco.
• Potentially contaminated mats must be misted and rolled up(carpet side "in")and
inserted directly into a container to minimize dust exposure. The RSR should use a
smock/apron to protect his uniform while handling the mats.
• RSR will segregate carts and bags in the truck and transport there back to the plant.
• Mist garments/mats with soapy water when adjusting the weight of the slings prior to
washing or during accidental spills. This will control potential dust exposures.
• Lot wash garments and mats. Contact Ops Support toeg t the proper wash formula for the
garments or mats.
• Wash slings after every use.
• Slings/bags can be any color but must be permanently labelled (2 labels for bags and 4
labels for slings). Labelled slings can be ordered through Storms or Ryco. Color coded
fabric for the slings is highly recommended. The mandatory color scheme and text for
the warning label is:
. r
CONTAMINATED WITH LEAD
MAY DAMAGE FERTILITY OR THE UNBORN CHILD
RUSES DAMAGE TO THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
DO NOT EAT,DRINK OR SMOKE WHEN HANDLING
DO NOT REMOVE DUST BY BLOWING OR SHAKING
DISPOSE OF LEAD CONTAMINATED WASH SKATER IN ACCORDANCE WITH
APPLICABLE LOCAL,STATE,OR FEDURAL REGULATIONS
Hazard warning tags can be used as a temporary measure on carts, slings and
bags until permanent labels are made available. Use"HMIS" tags, they are
available through Grainger,Accuform Signs and various safety vendors. The
tags must be similar to this:
