PHS/EHD has the following comments for your consideration,
I
An oil/water tank was removed from the site in June 1986 and soil contamination was evidenced.
PHS/EHD requested in correspondence dated March 4, 1994 further investigation to determine the full
extent of the soil and/or groundwater contamination. To comply with this directive, EMCON prepared the
'Work Plan for Soil and Groundwater Characterization' dated October 24, 1994.
i
In November 1994, two soil borings were drilled, one of which was:converted into a monitoring well and
one groundwater sample was collected. Limited soil contamination was evidenced, further defining the
extent of soil contamination, Please note, however, that the holdingAime of 14 days for EPA Method 8260
was exceeded by either one or two days for the soil samples. The groundwater sample did not detect
petroleum hydrocarbons, but chloroform was detected at 1.4 ppb.-i
I
Please submit a remedial action plan to remediate the residual soil contamination or a work plan to
determine the leachability of the residual soil contamination,
.i
ip
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Mary Meays at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director l
Environmental Health Division ,
i
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Diane M.
