' Mr. James L.L. Barton • Former Buffalo Tank
September 8, 2011 Stockton, California
tPage 2 of 3
completed by a licensed C-57 drilling contractor. Well destruction activities are detailed in the
following sections.
' Permitting
Prior to beginning work, well destruction permits will be procured from the SJCEHD. SGI will
notify the SJCEHD and other necessary parties at least three days prior to initiating field work.
Utility Surveys
' The well destruction locations will be marked using white paint. Underground Service Alert
(USA) will be contacted at least 48 hours prior to sub-surface activities. A professional
t underground utility locating company will be utilized to delineate other potential buried utilities at
well destruction locations.
' Well Destructions — Pressure Grout
Monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-3) will be destroyed by pressure grouting. Casings will be
grouted using a cement/bentonite-grout from the total depth of the casing up to two feet below
ground surface (bgs). Grout will be pumped into each location using a tremie pipe at a pressure
of approximately 150 pounds per square inch (psi) to insure sufficient distribution of the grout
through well screens and into the surrounding well filter pack. The traffic rated well boxes will
be removed using a jack hammer and the resultant void will be filled with concrete and matched
' with finished grade.
Waste Management
Soil cuttings and water generated during drilling and well obstruction removal activities will be
stored on-Site in properly labeled 55 gallon containers and/or on plastic visqueen pending waste
characterization. Waste will be disposed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations
and as approved by the CRWQCB.
' Report
A Well Destruction Report will be prepared and submitted to the CRWQCB to include a
' summary of well destruction activities.
' PROJECT SCHEDULE
SGI plans to commence work immediately following the approval of the Work Plan by
' CRWQCB. SGI estimates well destruction activities will take one day to complete.
Completion of well destructions at the Site will satisfy the CRWQCB requirements for no further
' action.
