• Health and safety plan
1.2 Proposed Monitoring Well Locations
The monitoring wells are proposed to be constructed in the locations shown on the attached map.
MW-1 and MW-2 are intended to represent the first groundwater condition in the Reserve
Dispersal Area;MW-3 and MW-4 are intended to represent the first groundwater condition of
the Primary Dispersal Area(See Groundwater Monitoring Well Locations). The quality of
groundwater samples collected from the upgradient and downgradient wells, will be used to
determine the baseline groundwater condition.
The installation of each groundwater monitoring well will be carefully evaluated to assess
borehole geology and water level measurements. This information will be considered when
placing the remaining wells appropriately for the monitoring network.
2.0 DRILLING DETAILS
This section provides a description of the equipment that will be used to construct the monitoring
wells, along with associated drilling activities.
2.1 Drilling Equipment
The wells will be drilled by Western Strata Exploration, Inc. using an all terrain truck mounted
with a hollow-stem auger. The drilling contractor will be required to hold a valid Class C-57
California Contractor's License. A permit for installation of the wells will be obtained from the
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department. The County will also be contacted for
the well seal inspection. The borehole will be drilled to a depth of approximately 50 feet,
depending on the depth at which saturated soil conditions are first encountered.
The well borehole will be approximately 6.0 to 10.0 inches in diameter, to allow for adequate
space for the gravel pack and well casing. All cuttings will be disposed of by spreading onsite,
as directed by French Camp. Drilling equipment will be washed at each monitoring well site to
avoid cross-contamination. Well casings will be inspected to ensure they are clean when
installed.
2.2 Well Installation Activities
The drilling operation and logging activities are to be supervised by a Professional Geologist.
No drilling mud or decontamination procedures are required for this site. Soil samples will be
collected every five feet and will be logged based upon the Unified Soil Classification System
(USCS). Collected information will include soil of rock type, color, grain size, hardness moisture
and plasticity when appropriate.
A well installation report will be included with the log and will show by depth the bottom of the
boring, screen location, granular backfill, seals, grout, and height of protective casing above
ground surface. The actual composition of the granular backfill, seal, and grout will be recorded
French Camp-Monitoring Well Installation Workplan 2 SAB027100
September 2006 CADmuments and Settings\mlagorio\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Fi1es\OLK9F\Work Plan
