Rickman
Verification Sampling Results
Former Tillie Lewis Site Remediation
Stockton, California
This letter supplements our previous letter of February 15, 1989, which
summarized the verification sampling, at the Former Tillie Lewis Foods Cannery.
To summarize:
o The base of the excavation generally extends down to 28 to 30-foot
depth, with a local area extending further down to 35 to 38-foot depth.
o Approximately 7500 to 8000 cubic yards of contaminated materials have
been removed from the excavation.
o The general extent and volume of contaminated soils agrees well with
the anticipated extent and volume of contaminated soils, as interpreted
from the site assessment data.
o Soils were excavated from the sides and base of the excavation until
field HNu PID measurements were less than 1 ppm.
o The line of contamination in the base of much of the excavation was
clearly discernible by staining of the sands.
o Laboratory test results of 14 verification samples from the base of the
excavation contained nondetectable amounts of gasoline, kerosene,
diesel, and light motor oil using a TEPH fuel fingerprint analyses
technique as requested by Mr. Gordon Boggs of the CVRWQCB.
o Laboratory test results of 14 verification samples from the base of the
excavation had total volatile petroleum hydrocarbons concentrations of
less than 1.5 ppm using the GC/FID technique requested by Mr. Gordon
Boggs of the CVRWQCB.
McClelland Consultants(West),Inc.
2140 Eastman Avenue,Ventura,California 93003
(805)644-5535, FAX: (805)642-4791
A member of the Fugro-McClelland group of companies
