According to Clearwater' s April 3 , 2009 Site Conceptual Model,
Clearwater hypothesized that hydrocarbon impacts are present in soil and groundwater between
20 and 25 feet (Il) below ground surface (bgs); In an effort to test this hypothesis, and in
response to discussions about placing the low-flow sample port within the lower screened
interval of the wells (as opposed to the placement at 15 feet bgs), the sample port was set
towards the bottom of the well screen in each well (for detail, please see the Table A below). It
is acknowledged that collecting samples to evaluate rebound effects while simultaneously
evaluating the lower well screen interval impacts would not be possible; Two samples per well
would need to be collected in order to provide "control" samples for proper evaluation.
However, funding limitations dictated sample collection and laboratory analysis of only one
sample per well .
Table A — Sample Port Depth Location within Well
Monitoring Well Screened Interval Sample Port Location Previous Low-Flow
(ft bgs) Port Location (ft bgs)
MW- 1 6-26 23 15
MW-2 6-26 22 15
MW-3 6-26 22 15
MW-4 5- 19 18 15
MW-513 5-25 18 15
MW-6 5-20 17 15
MW-7 5 -25 22 15
MW-8 5 -25 20 15
IW-3 10-25 22 .5 Not sampled
DPW- I 10-30 22 15
AS - 1 22-25 23 23. 5
Laboratory Analysis
Groundwater samples collected during this event from wells MWA through MW-4, MW-6, and
MW-7 were analyzed for concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g)
and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (known collectively as BTEX) .
Groundwater samples collected from wells MW-513, MW-8, DPW- 1 , AS- 1 , and IW-3 were
analyzed for TPH-g, BTEX, five fuel oxygenates (methyl tertiary butyl ether [MTBE] , di-
isopropyl ether [DIPE], ethyl tertiary butyl ether [ETBE], tertiary amyl methyl ether [TAME],
tertiary butyl alcohol [TBA]), 1 ,2-dichloroethane ( 1 ,2-DCE), and 1 ,2-dibromoethane ( 1 ,2-EDB)
by EPA Method 8260B by Kiff Analytical, LLC (Kifl), a State of California Department of
Health Services-certified laboratory located in Davis, California.
