Subject: FW: ZB178A - Barnes Trucking , Soil Investigation May 2010 Summary
Dear Lori -
Following is a brief summary of the two-day soil and groundwater investigation that took place at the 1817 S.
Fresno Ave. , Stockton Site (Barnes Trucking). All soil borings were advanced to 32 feet bgs, continuously
logged , and samples were collected above, within and below the impacted zones, as observed in the field. A
grab groundwater sample was collected from each boring. Samples are being delivered to Kiff Analytical today,
May 20th , 2010 for 7-day turn-around time:
On Tuesday, May 18th, 2010, Clearwater Staff members arrived on-Site at 0930 and set up the Geoprobe rig at
the first soil boring , SB-16, which was located approximately 74 feet south of the tank cage and 3 feet from the
eastern-most fence. This boring was advanced to 32 feet bgs. PID and visual observations from this boring
indicated that no obvious impacts were present.
At 1200, SBA 7 was set up and advanced to 32 feet bgs . SBA 7 was located approximately 43 feet west of the
eastern property fence, approximately 20 feet south of SB-15. Observed lithologic information suggests that no
major impacts were present within soil encountered at this boring . This boring may define the southern boundary
of the sorbed-phase impacts, pending lab results.
i
At 1445, SB-18 was set up and advanced to 32 feet bgs. SB-18 was located equidistant between the eastern
and western corners of the building on-Site, in the middle of the southern-facing wall , approximately 2 feet from
the wall . Impacts were observed , with the zones of greatest impacts present between 22 feet bgs and 26 feet
bgs with a high PID reading of 1 , 177 PPM . These impacts were defined vertically, using the PID and visual/odor
indications, pending lab results.
-0900 on Wednesday,ad y,May 1 in, 2010, SB-1 w up approximately oximately(rfee et ast oflheGuirdmg ann 5 feet
north of the building's southeast corner. The PID was calibrated using 100 PPM isobutylene gas, and SB-19 was
advanced to 32 feet bgs. Impacts were noted with a PID reading of 3,308 PPM between 22 and 24 feet bgs, with
vertical definition mostly acheived at 32 feet (based on low PID detections), pending lab results.
At 1045, SB-20 was placed 20 feet north of SB-19, in line with SB-19, and advanced to define the area north of
SBA 9. This boring was advanced to 32 feet bgs. Impacts were noted at this boring between 24 and 28 feet bgs,
with a high PID reading of 1 ,717 PPM at 24 feet bgs. At 32 feet, impacts were observed to be decreased, borne
out with a relatively low PID reading. Vertical definition on this boring is expected to be achieved , pending lab
results .
At 1315, the final boring, SB-21 , was set up and advanced to 32 feet bgs. SB-21 was located approximately 25
feet north of the building , approximately 2 feet west of the western-facing wall of the building on-Site, in a location
presumed to be up/cross gradient from SB- 18. No impacts were noted within soil cores at SB-21 .
Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions regarding this summary information .
Best Regards,
i
