12 December 1995
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0184
17. Complete borings MVS'-7 through MW-10 as ground water monitoring wells using 20 feet of
0.020-inch slotted PVC screen. The proposed monitoring well completion is illustrated in
Figure 4.
4.2. GROUND WATER SAMPLING
1. Survey the top of the monitoring well casings to the nearest 1/100th of an inch to determine
the elevations relative to existing wells.
2. No sooner than 72 hours after installation, measure to the nearest 0.01 foot, the static water
level in all monitoring wells.
3. Using a dedicated bailer or submersible pump, surge and purge each monitoring well. At least
three well volumes of water will be removed from each well to stabilize temperature, pH and
conductivity; stabilization parameters will be measured at one-gallon intervals. Ground water
samples will be collected using polyethylene disposable bailers; samples will be collected in
40-m1 VOA vials preserved with hydrochloric acid and 1-liter amber bottles.
4. Label and log water samples on a chain-of-custody form.
5. Store the samples in a chilled container and transport under chain-of-custody procedure to
a state-certified laboratory for analysis. Water samples will be analyzed for TPH-g and
BTE&X in accordance with EPA methods 5030/8015m and 602, respectively. Samples from
MW-4, MW-5, MW-6, MW-7, MW-9 and MW-10 will also be analyzed for TPH-d in
accordance with EPA methods 8015m.
6. Store purged water in 55-gallon DOT drums on-site pending analytical results.
4.3. SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION PILOT TEST
The following procedures will be performed for the soil vapor extraction pilot test:
1. A portable internal combustion extraction system will be set-up on-site and operated for a
period of 8 to 10 hours to determine the subsurface permeability and radial influence of vapor
extraction and the initial hydrocarbon recovery rate. VW-1 will be used as the extraction
point.
2. Four vapor samples will be collected during the test. Samples will be collected at
approximately 2-hour intervals and measure hydrocarbon concentrations in the extracted
vapors. The samples will then be transported under chain-of-custody to a state-certified
laboratory for analysis. Each vapor sample will be analyzed for TPH-g TPH-d and BTE&X
in accordance with appropriate EPA methods.
