SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION PILOT TEST
For performance of an SVE pilot test,a portable internal combustion(IC)system willbe set-up on-
site and operated for a period of 8 to 10 hours. The unit will be used to apply a vacuum ars)ibxttraction
well,
sroposed vapor wells VW-5A and B.
a / u/
The induced vacuum will be measured at multiple SVE wells and several monitoring wells t1K
throughout the site. Additionally, the vapor concentrations from the extraction wellSground water
depths and others SVE unit parameters (operation speed, air flow and vacuum) will be measured
during the SVE pilot test. The extraction well vacuum, induced vacuum at monitoring points,
extracted hydrocarbon concentrations and extraction flow rate will be measured at 30 minute
intervals throughout the test. The data will aide to estimate the relative subsurface permeability for C—
vapor extraction, radius of influence of the vapor extraction well and the initial hydrocarbon recovery
rate.Monitoring data from observation wells and the extraction well will be collected on field logs.
Data will facilitate in the design of the SVE system and will be used to determine the number of– p
vapor wells, the spacing of the wells and the selection of vapor remediation system (e.g. internal
combustion,thermal oxidation, catalytic oxidation).
Four vapor samples will be collected from the extraction well6during the test. Samples will be
collected at approximately two hour intervals. The samples will be collected in Tedlar bags, within
a vacuum chamber and stored in a cool container and transported under chain-of-custody to a DHS-
certified laboratory for analysis. Each vapor sample will be analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) and diesel (TPH-d) in
accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified/5030;
• Volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes: BTEX) and Fuel
oxygenates; di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), MTBE, tertiary-
amyl methyl ether (TAME) and tertiary butanol (TBA) in accordance with EPA Method
8260.
3.2. REPORT PREPARATION
Procedures and findings of the SVE pilot test will be analyzed within a feasibility report prepared
in conjunction with the additional ground water extraction pilot tests proposed for the site. Results
of feasibility studies may also be detailed in a Corrects ev Action Plan(CAP).The CAP will provide
an analysis of feasibility testing and include recommendations for soil and ground water remediation
at the site. The reports will be in a format acceptable to the EHD and will be reviewed and signed
by a California Professional Geologist.
Advanced GeoEnvironmencal,Inc.
