INSTALLATION OF SVE/IAS SYSTEM PIPING
Currently piping is installed 12-inches below the surface of the site and routed from the
SVE well heads to the vapor extraction unit. Additionally, PVC tubing and ball valves will
be connected and routed from each designated IAS well head# to the IAS system. The
proposed SVE/IAS piping system will be installed within the current remediation compound.
Air should be supplied to each of the IAS points via piping by a compressor or
blower-driven IAS unit capable of approximately 5 to 10 psi to each sparging well at a rate
of 2 to 3 scfm.
The proposed IAS system will consist of a 5-horsepower, electric air compressor that will
generate a regulated pressure of clean air to be injected beneath the watertable. From the
outlet of the air compressor(located inside the treatment compound), 1-inch diameter PVC
piping will connect to an IAS tubing manifold network; the IAS manifold will consist of a
network of PVC ball valves, pressure gauges, air flow gauges and air pressure regulators
for added controls to each individual air sparge well. A PVC ball valve, an air pressure
gauge, an oil filter and an air pressure regulator will be installed at the outlet of the air
compressor for added controls.
1
3.4. SVE/IAS REMEDIATION OPERATION AND MONITORING D
dor the SVE, the catalytic oxidizer unit will be used to apply a vacuum to VW2A and
aV,VWSA/B. The induced vacuum will be measured at these wells. Soil vapor concentrations
5d from the extraction wells will be measured at regular or a minimum weekly intervals
throughout the remediation. Several parameters, including radius of influence, sparging
rate, sparging vapor concentrations, soil vapor pressures, ground water depths and
dissolved oxygen, will be measured at surrounding wells, both vertical and laterally for
spacial distribution. The induced pressure at monitoring points, sparging rate (discharge
rate),vapor concentrations at monitoring points, depth to ground water in surrounding wells
and most crucially dissolved oxygen will be measured prior to the startup of the IAS
remediation to demonstrate a baseline for geochemical (anaerobic zone) and monitored
throughout the IAS remediation.
The extraction well vacuum, induced vacuum at monitoring points, extracted hydrocarbon
concentrations and extraction flow rate will be measured at regular intervals throughout the
remediation as required for evaluating soil vapor recovery and destruction. Data will
facilitate any required changes to the design of the current SVE system (new wells and
will-be used to-determine_the spacing of the vapor wells to be compatible with the IAS
remediation and aide in recovery of the volatilized hydrocarbons.
Advanced CeoEnvironmental,Inc.
