504 milliliter plastic bottles and capped with teflon lined caps. Samples were labeled with
stick-on labels frilled out in indelible ink, with the following information:
Site name
Date collected
Time collected
Sample I.D.
Sampler's initials
r Analysis required
Samples were sealed into ziplock baggies and placed with ice in an insulated chest for
k delivery with a Chain-of-Custody document to the WESTON Analytics' laboratory in
Stockton, California. This laboratory is certified by the State of California to perform the
required analyses. Samples were submitted for analysis by EPA Method 6G2 for
x Benzene, Toluene, Xylene, and Ethyl Benzene (BTXE), EPA Method 8015 (Modified) for
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (TPH-G), and by EPA Method 239.2 for Total
Tread.
Quality control/quality assurance procedures consisted of the preparation and analysis of
a trip blank sample. This is a laboratory prepared sample of delonized water which was
transported to the site, handled like the other samples and then submitted to the
laboratory for analysis with the other samples. All samples were submitted to the
laboratory at the same time.
The bailer used to collect the samples was thoroughly decontaminated prior to and after
each use to prevent cross contamination of samples. The thin nylon line used to lower
the bailer was removed and discarded after each use. Decontamination of the bailer
consisted of an initial-gash with an alconoxlpotable water solution followed by a thorough
potable water rinse which was followed by final rinse with distilled water. The pump that
was used to purge the wells was thoroughly cleansed prior to use and between uses at
each well by inserting it into a barrel containing an alconoxlpotable water mixture,
washing the outside, and running the pump sufficiently to insure the inside of the pump
and attached hoses received a good wash.
All water purged from the wells and water used to decontaminate equipment was
containerized in 55 gallon drums, which were labeled and left at the site.
On March 14, 1991, WESTON personnel surveyed the wells to establish the elevation of
the top of each PVC well casing relative to a selected benchmark with an assumed
elevation of 25 fret. Using the well casing elevations and the measured depths to water,
the groundwater elevation at each well was determined.
x
All on-site work was performed in accordance with WESTON's site specific Health and
Safety Plan.
r
A - 7
