h
. PURPOSE OF INVESTIGATION
CRC Environmental Risk Management Inc . at the request of Brazos Asset Management, was asked to
assess an elevator pit leak at a property known as the Bridges Specialty Center Hydraulic fluid from
the elevator was in direct contact with the soil in the uncasea borehole CRC responded by pumping
as much hvdraulic fluid as possible from the bore hole The nvdraulic fluid was previously analvzed
and no Polvchlorinated Biphenvis (PCBs) were detected
The hvdraulic casing, which contains the piston which moves the elevator car. is located in a seven-inch
diameter soil boring with no casing or secondary containment The length of the hvdraulic sleeve which
was buried within the elevator pit area is approximately 12 feet Upon removal of the hvdraulic sleeve.
oil saturated soil was observed It appears that either during removal of the hvdraulic sleeve and piston
or sometime later. there was partial collapse of the hole (See Figure 2)
The objective of the subsurface soil investigation and the groundwater sampling conducted by CRC will
be to determine the extent of soil and .;roundwater contamination. and to further investigate the
remeaiation options v
CRC reviewed regional groundwater direction in the area and groundwater is expected to be
approximately 25 feet below ground surface t b,_,>► with a local gradient direction to the east
SCOPE OF WORK
Two core sample holes will be drilled to approximately menw-rive t251 feet below ground surface tbgs)
or to groundwater if above 30 feet I Figure 3)
Soil Core Sampling Procedures
Soil core samvling will be conducted using 5-foot sections of decontaminated 314-inch I D galvanized
steel probe pipe The probe pipe is connected to a 1-foot 314-inch diameter. galvanized steel soil core
tube Stainless steel decontaminated insert rods are placed through the probe pipe and sampling core
The probe pipe soil core and insert rods are together pneumatically driven to the depth the soil sample
is desired The insert rods are removed and the probe pipe and core tube is driven 1-foot to obtain the
soil core sample The probe pipe containing soil core sample is removed from the hole and the soil
sample is disconnected from the probe pipe The ends of the core are sealed using teflon tape and
plastic end caps Soil samples will be collected for lithologic description under the supervision of a
California licensed Registered Geologist Descriptions recoraed during sample logging will be in
accordance with the U ruf ed Soil Classification System l USCSI as outlined in ASTM Standard Method
D2487 Boring logs will be included in the final Preliminary site Assessment report
3-azo, Asset Management Proiect T 3525-017-1
7tcruar% 15 1994 2233 Grana Canal Blvd Stockton L
i
