Third Bullet Item, Second Paragraph
Excavation to the north and west of the property was not possible due to the presence of
underground utilities and pipelines immediately adjacent to the property boundaries. In addition,
continued excavation to the north would have jeopardized the integrity of Grantline Road.
Excavation to the south was not warranted due to the lack of detectable hydrocarbons beyond
the excavation limits. Finally, excavation beyond the eastern property boundary was not
justified based on field and analytical data.
Section 1.2,6, Page 1-5
The intent of the information summary is to provide an overview of the site characterization as
it currently exists. Site data collected in 1986 was not included because it involved
characterization of the site as it existed prior to soil excavation. Therefore, data collected in
1986 does not reflect the current conditions of the site and was excluded on that basis.
Section 1.2.6.1, Pages 1-6 and 1-7
First Bullet Item
The data presented in this section of the document was not misleading; it describes the analytical
results for soil samples obtained during previous activities conducted on the site. Additional
information regarding the distribution and types of contaminants detected in subsurface soil is
presented elsewhere in the report.
Second Bullet Item
The soil sample referred to was collected at or below the capillary fringe or ground water table.
In accordance with standard practice of industry, soil samples collected from below ground water
were not analyzed since hydrocarbons present in the saturated zone are considered to be in the
dissolved-phase. Water samples from AW-9 have been analyzed at regular intervals since April
1992, and at the last sampling, no detectable concentrations of analytes were present in the
samples from AW-9.
Third Bullet Item
While Geomatrix states that data from Monitoring Wells AW-10, AW-11, and AW-12 were not
presented in the text of the risk assessment, the risk assessment does state "Detectable
concentrations of TPH-G, TPH D, and BTEX were observed in soil samples from AW-10, AW-
11, and AW-12. A comprehensive summary of the analytical results for soil is presented in
Table 1-2. " The information is presented in tabular form to facilitate data analysis and review.
5
