ARCADIS Ms. Kristi Shelton
November 12, 2009
Task 2: Soil Boring Advancement
• Advance four soil borings (HB-1, HB-2,. HB-3, and HB-41 at the locations
shown in Figure 2.
• Each soil boring will be advanced to an approximate depth of 8 feet below
ground surface (bgs) using a hand auger. Depth to groundwater in the
vicinity of the soil borings is approximately 9 feet bgs. Soil samples will be
collected at depths of 4 and 8 feet bgs using an impact-sampler lined with
two, 3-inch precleaned brass tubes. The bottom-most sample tube at each
sampling interval will be lined with Teflon TM sheets and sealed with plastic .
end caps. The samples will then be labeled, placed in a resealable plastic
bag, and stored in an ice-chilled cooler. The samples will remain chilled until
relinquished to the analytical, laboratory. Strict chain-of-custody procedures
will be followed from the time the samples are collected until the time they
are relinquished.to the laboratory.
• Soil contained in the remaining tubes will be screened for volatile, organic
hydrocarbons (VOCs) using field .instrumentation equipped with- a flame
ionization or photoionization detector. ARCADIS will record the VOC
readings, soil types, and other pertinent geologic data on borehole logs.
Task 3: Sample Analysis
• All soil samples collected for analysis will be submitted to Lancaster
Laboratories of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Lancaster Labs is certified by the
California Department of Public Health to perform the required analyses
(Certification No. 2501). Soil samples will be analyzed for TPHd and TPHg
-by United States Environmental Protection Age SEPA) Method,801513;
and BTEX and naphthalene by USEPA Metho 8060 . ^?
Task 4: Waste Management r
• Soil cuttings generated during the sampling activities will be used to backfill '
the resulting borehole.
• Wastewater generated during the field activities will be stored temporarily in
a Departmentof Transportation (DOT)-approved, 55-gallon, steel drum
pending removal and proper disposal.
I
Page:
..
