(GTI) workplan approved by the
San Joaquin County EHD ' their November 4, 1998 letter, is $ 12,060; see the table below for a
breakdown of costs.
The total amount of your wo rk-plan has been approved, but the work content has been amended.
The 1996 GTI Site Characte 'zation Report found soil petroleum contamination to approximately
70 ft bis. MTBE was not s pled for during the site characterization. The groundwater is
reported to be approximate)) 110 R b1s. Soil samples should be taken every 5 ft and analyzed
using a mobil lab, if possibl . If the soil contamination ends at approximately 70 ft bis, as it did
in 1996, the borehole should be abandoned and the well should not be installed into the
goundwater. This will cud 'e the possibility of contaminating a clean aquifer by providing a
conduit to the overlying soil contamination. However, if petroleum contamination is found every
5 ft extending down into the groundwater, the well should be installed and sampled as planned.
The UST Cleanup Fund offs a should be notified of the date of the drilling event.
Be aware that this pre-approval does not constitute a decision on reimbursement: all
reasonable and necessary corrective action costs for work directed and approved by the County
will be eligibleAr reimbursement per the terms of your Letter of Commitment at costs consistent
with those pre-approved in this letter.
All future costs for 4 orrective action must be approved in writing by Fund staff.
Future costs for corrective action crust meet the requirements of
Article ll, apter 16, Underground Storage Tank Regulations.
91 rdrnia Environmental Protection Agency
Q Recycled Pp,,
