(GTI) workplan approved by the
San Joaquin County EHD in their November 4, 1998 letter, is S 12,060; see the table below for a
breakdown of costs.
The total amount of your workplan has been approved, but the work content has been amended.
The 1996 GTI Site Characterization Report found soil petroleum contamination to approximately
70 ft bls. MTBE was not sampled for during the site characterization. The groundwater is
reported to be approximately 110 ft bls. Soil samples should be taken every 5 ft and analyzed
using a mobil lab, if possible. If the soil contamination ends at approximately 70 ft bls, as it did
in 1996, the borehole should be abandoned and the well should not be installed into the
groundwater. This will reduce the possibility of contaminating a clean aquifer by providing a
conduit to the overlying soil contamination. However, if petroleum contamination is found every
5 ft extending down into the groundwater, the well should be installed and sampled as planned.
The UST Cleanup Fund office should be notified of the date of the drilling event.
Be aware that this pre-approval does not constitute a decision on reimbursement: all
reasonable and necessary corrective action costs for work directed and approved by the County
will be eligible for reimbursement per the terms of your Letter of Commitment at costs consistent
with those pre-approved in this letter.
All future costs for corrective action must be approved in writing by Fund staff.
Future costs for corrective action must meet the requirements of
Article 11, Chapter 16, Underground Storage Tank Regulations.
California Environmental Protection Agency
0s,1 Rervrlod Panrr _ -
