SCOPE OF WORK
Task 1 - Pre-Field Activities
Prior to advancing the borings, Kleinfelder will contact CHP personnel to discuss the
planned activities. Kleinfelder will conduct a site visit to evaluate site conditions and drill
rig access. Work will be performed at such a time and in a manner as to cause minimal
inconvenience to Highway Patrol operations. As required by SJCEHD, well locations F
will be marked in white paint. Kleinfelder and the drilling contractor will contact
Underground Service Alert 48 hours prior to conducting field work to notify local utilities i
of our proposed subsurface work. USA provides a partial location service free of charge
for major utility lines. . The public utility companies contacted by USA may not mark
subsurface structures buried under private property or beneath a building.
Task 2 - Submit Well Destruction Applications to San Joaquin County Department
of Environmental Health j
San Joaquin County requires submittal of a completed well destruction application for
each well prior to work. Prior to submitting well destruction applications to SJCEHD,
Kleinfelder will review DGS files and reports from previous consultants to compile well
I construction information necessary for the groundwater monitoring well destruction
applications. Kleinfelder will then prepare and submit well destruction applications,
along with the required fees.
Task 3 - Perform Well Destructions
i
Kleinfelder proposes to destroy the wells by overseeing and retaining the services of a I
drill ing.subcontractor. . Kleinfelder contacted SJCEHD prior to obtaining bids from drilling
subcontractors and preparing this proposal. Based on.the proximity of each well to the
existing gasoline UST, SJCEHD is requiring two different methods of destruction for the
four wells. MW-2 and MW-3 will be destroyed by drilling out the wells, which will
remove the casing and the filter pack. The open boring will then be grouted to surface
with neat cement. A tremie pipe will be used to displace water in the boring. MW-1 and
MW-4 will be destroyed by pressure grouting. -The pressure grouting method involves
inserting a tremie pipe into the well and pumping cement grout through the tremie pipe
to the bottom of the well. After the well casing is filled with grout, a pressure packer is
installed on 'top of the well casing and cement grout is pumped into the well under
pressure. In addition to pressure grouting, the vault boxes will be drilled out, and a
"button" of grout will be deposited on top of the PVC casing.
Task 4 - Prepare Letter of Completion
Upon completion of the well destructions, a brief summary letter will be prepared for
client review. The letter will include:
• A description of field activities, observations, and protocols; and
• San Joaquin County approved-well applications
02301 PROPISAC5P435 ' Page 3 of 5 September 30, 2005
