I1 <br /> 'l <br /> To establish accepted procedures for conducting well development prior to purging and <br /> . sampling activities in accordance with standard practices by engineering professionals. <br /> 'i <br /> 2. Background <br /> Following the installation of a monitoring well, it is necessary to develop the well in ' <br /> ' order to adequately remove the silt and clay (fines) from the filter pack material and in the <br /> immediate proximity of the well, in order to minimize the infiltration of fines throughout <br /> the life of the monitoring well. <br /> j <br /> _ 3. Personnel Required and Responsibilities 3 <br /> A <br /> Projecter: The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for ensuring that field <br /> personnel have been trained in the use of these procedures and for verifying that the <br /> development procedures are,performed in compliance with this SOP. At a minimum,,the <br /> PM will maintain contact with the client or contractor involved, will be available by ° <br /> phone during the field activities and will review fieldinotes for completeness. <br /> Field Geologist/Field Engineer/Soil Scientist/Technician: The field staff person assigned <br /> to the project is responsible.for complying with this SOP. Responsibilities include <br /> t preparation for field activities, ensuring equipment isilin working order and clean prior to <br /> the field event, providing adequate field documentation of events, observations;readings, <br /> measurements, volume of water, and overall development activities. <br /> h 4. Equipment Required <br /> 1 Tool Box <br /> L: Disposable gloves <br /> • Decontamination supplies <br /> • Water Level Meter/tape and paste/other device <br /> • Measuring tape <br /> Indelible marker/Drum labels <br /> • Surge Block <br /> • Development pump and hoses OR bailers and line <br /> • Several 5-gallon buckets;with 1 gallon increments noted <br /> SOP MW development 1 January 2004 <br />
