19 November 2002
AGE-NC Project No. 99-0581
ANALYTICAL METHODS
Soil samples were transported under chain-of-custody to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories
(CTEL), a California Department of Health Services-certified laboratory. Selected samples from
borings P1, P2, P3 and P6 were analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) and motor oil (TPH-mo) in
accordance with EPA Method 8015M; and
• Benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene and xylenes(BTEX)and methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE)
in accordance with EPS Method 8021.
In addition, the samples from borings P3 and P6 were analyzed for:
• Volatile organic compounds,BTEX and MTBE in accordance with EPA Method 8260; and
• CAM 17 Metals in accordance with EPA Method 6010Bn471.
Samples from borings P4 and P5 Were analyzed only for TPH-g and TPH-mo in accordance with
EPA Method 8015M.
FINDINGS
Field observations did not detect the presence of volatile organic compounds (utilizing the OVM)
above background levels or petroleum hydrocarbon-like odor in the soil samples collected.
Analytical results of eight soil samples selected for analysis detected TPH-mo in soil samples
collected from borings P 1,P2 and P4,at a maximum concentration of 1,200 milligrams per kilogram
(mg/kg)in sample P1-10, and TPH-g at a concentration of 1.7 mg/kg in soil sample P4-10.
CAM 17 metals barium, vanadium and zinc were detected in soil samples collected from borings P3
and P6 at maximum concentrations of 200 mg/kg(P6-10),34 mg/kg(P3-10)and 130 mg/kg(P3-10),
respectively. However, the concentrations fell within the range of background concentrations for
these metals in California soils and well below the total threshold limit concentrations(TTLC) for
hazardous waste established by California.
No other target analytes were detected at or above laboratory detection levels in the analyzed soil
samples. The analytical results are summarized in Tables 1 and 2. Copies of the laboratory reports
(CTL Project No. CT214-0210058 and CT214-0210149), quality assurance and quality control
(QA/QC)report and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix A.
Advanced GcoEnvironmmntal.Inc
