In the Work Plan, CRA proposes to advance two shallow soil borings (8-1 and
B-2) to depths of first groundwater [approximately six feet below surface grade (bsg)] to
compare current petroleum hydrocarbon concentrations in soil to soil concentrations for
residential, commercial/industrial and utility workers listed in Table 1 , titled Concentrations of
Petroleum Constituents in Soil That Wfll Have No Significant Risk of Adversely Affecting Human
Health. The table is found in Low-threat Underground Storage Tank Case Closure Policy
(LTCP) adopted by the California State Water Resources Control Board in August 2012.
CRA proposes to:
Advance two soil borings using a 3,25-inch-diameter hand auger at locations illustrated
on Figure 2 of the Work Plan while continuously logging the boreholes;
Screen soil samples for volatile petroleum hydrocarbon contaminants at one-foot
intervals using a photoionization detector while advancing the boreholes;
Collect two soil samples from each borehole at depths of approximately four-and-a-half
and six feet bsg;
p Backfill the proposed boreholes from total depth to approximately one foot bsg with
portland cement before adding approximately one foot of concrete to grade;
b Analyze the soil samples for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) by
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 8015: benzene and othylbenzene by
EPA Method 8260andnaphthalene by EPA Method 8270 ; and
Submit a repot of findings approximateiv sixty days following receipt of all final analytical
data.
