The EHD has reevaluated the approved
scope of work based on.current groundwater analytical results submitted for the fourth
quarter 2008, and the first quarter 2009. Concentrations of methyl tertiary-butyl ether
(MTBE) have decreased significantly to levels at or near the. :primary maximum
contaminant level (MCL) of thirteen micrograms per , liter (µg/L) in groundwater
collected from the most impacted monitoring wells MW-1, MW-4, MW-5, and MW-8;
therefore, the EHD rescinds the directive to install four monitoring wells.
Instead, the EHD believes collecting grab groundwater samples will provide the
information needed to define the MTBE plume and recommends the submittal of a work
plan to meet this objective. Please respond to the EHD by August 20, 2009, with either a
revised work plan that targets the groundwater at locations and depths identified by letter
dated February 6, 2009,or your comments to the above recommendations.
To comply with the State Water Resources Control Board Resolution No. 2009-0042, the
EHD approves the semi-annual monitoring andsampling of monitoring wells: MW-1,
MW-4, MW-5, .and MW-8; and the biennial monitoring and sampling of monitoring
' 'r
