08 January 1996
AGE-NC Project No, 95-0105
AGE will advance probings to depths of approximately S feet below ground surface (bsg) using direct
push technology (DPT). Proposed probing locations are illustrated in Figure 2.
Soil samples will be collected continuously using a Geoprobe sampler and four brass sleeves. Upon
sample retrieval, the second brass sleeve will be removed from the sampler. The ends of the sleeve
will be immediately covered with Teflon tape or aluminum sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Each
sample will be placed in a chilled container for transportation to a State-certified laboratory. Each
sample sleeve will be labeled with the following: boring location, depth, time, date and sampler's
initials.
Grab ground water samples will be collected from at least four of the probings. Ground :rater
samples will be collected using a Geoprobe water sampling assembly. After collection, samples will
be stored in a chilled container, under ice and transported to a State-certified laboratory.
3.2. INSTALLATION OF GROUND WATER MONITORING WELLS
Presently, no monitoring wells at the site are immediately down-gradient of the former UST
excavation. The PHS-EHD is requiring the installation of at least one down-gradient monitoring well
at the site. The Iocation(s) and number of wells to be installed will be based upon the results of the
probing investigation. Upon determination of the locations and number of wells, an addendum will
be completed depicting proposed locations for the wells.
3.3. EQUMMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools and brass sleeves used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean
water after washing with a solution of Alconox. All Geoprobe rods are cleaned prior to advancement
in each probing location.
3.4. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
r
Selected soil and ground water samples will be analyzed for TPH-g and BTE&X in accordance with
EPA methods 8015/5030 and 80201602, respectively. Laboratory reports of both soil and ground
water analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reports, and
sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report with the findings and
recommendations.
