15 March 1996
AGE-NC Project No 95-0105
' 44 LABORATORY RESULTS OF PROBING SOIL SAMPLES
' TPH-g and TPH-d were detected in samples P2-5, P2-7 and P6-7 atc centrations as high as 2,200
pglg(parts per nvllion ppm) BTE&X were detected in samples P5- and P6-7 at concentrations as
high as 190 ppm(xylenes, P6-7) Analytical results of soil samples are summarized on Table 3 The
' laboratory report (Alpha Analytical Laboratory batch No 96-0119-014) and chain-of-custody are
presented in Appendix D
' 4 5 LABORATORY RESULTS OF GRAB GROUND WATER SAMPLES
' TPH-g was detected in grab ground water samples from probings P5 and P6 at concentrations of
4,500 and 740,000 ppb, respectively TPH-d was detected in grab ground water samples from
probings P3, P4 and P5 at concentrations up to 1,400 (P4) Samples from P1 and P6 were not
' analyzed for TPH-d because only an inadequate volume of water could be collected from these
probmgs However, chromatograph of the TPH-g analysis of P6 indicated the presence of compounds
similar to TPH-d, confirmation was not possible
Benzene was detected in the sample from P6 at 1,700 ppb, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene were
detected in samples collected from probings P5 and P6 at concentrations as high as 83,000 ppb
(xylene, P6) Petroleum hydrocarbons were not detected in the sample collected from probing P1
Analytical results of ground water samples are summarized on Table 4 The laboratory report (Alpha
' Analytical Laboratory batch No 96-0119-014) and chain-of-custody are presented in Appendix D
' 5.0. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
5 1 HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL
' Based upon results of the soil probing investigation, hydrocarbon-impacted soil extends north and
west of the former UST area, off-site under Grant Line Road and Parker Avenue However, because
' of the shallow depth to ground water at the site, most of the impacted soil is present within the
capillary fnnge or saturated zones Additional investigation north and west of thefi4vill be required to
determine the lateral extent of impacted soil
' 7
' 5 2 HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED GROUND WATER
Low concentrations of benzene were detected in well MW-3 during the January 1996 monitoring
' event No petroleum hydz ocarbons were detected in wells MW-1 or MW-2, however, none of the
three existing ground water monitoring wells are down-gradient of the former UST excavations and
