_ 15 September 1995- - – - _ —
AGE-NC Project No 95-0105
' The grab water sample collected from boring B 1 was found to contain TPH-g and TPH as motor oil
at concentrations of 20,000 and 170 ppb, respectively BTE&X were also present in this sample at
concentrations ranging from 110 ppb for toluene to 2,200 ppb for total xylenes
' TPH-g was detected in the water sample collected from boring 132 at a concentration of 730 ppb
Toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes were detected at concentrations up to 7 7 ppb The analytical
' results of soil boring samples and grab ground water samples are summarized in Table 3 The
laboratory report and chain-of-custody form are presented to Appendix G
45 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF TRENCHING, EXCAVATION AND STOCK PILE
SAMPLES
TPH-g was detected in trenching samples T1-1, T2-1, T3-2 and T4-1 at concentrations of 150, 780,
2 7 and 2,700 ppm, respectively Typically, concentrations of aromatic compounds are positively
correlated with those of TPH-g However, sample T2-1 was found to contain benzene at 1 1 ppm
while benzene was not detected in sample T4-1 No BTE&X were detected in sample T3-2
In excavation samples, the highest concentration of TPH-g at 1,600 ppm was detected in sample NW-
2,which also contains benzene at 12 ppm Samples NW-3, WW-1, WW-2 and SW-2 were found to
contain TPH-g at concentrations of 14, 53, 330, and 23 ppm, respectively Petroleum hydrocarbons 1
were not detected in samples NW-1 or SW-1 The remaining excavation samples contain low to
moderate concentrations of various aromatic hydrocarbons
Analytical results of the stockpiled soil samples indicated the detection of TPH-g and volatile
aromatics (toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes) in every sample The most elevated concentrations
' were detected in sample SP-3, where TPH-g was present at 1,100 ppm, while volatile aromatic levels
ranged from 0 005 ppm for toluene to 49 ppm for total xylenes Benzene, however, was not detected
in any stock pile sample and the concentrations of TPH-g rn SP-1 and SP-2 were only 15 and 17 ppm,
' respectively Total lead was detected in the composited stockpiled soil sample at a concentration of
7 0 ppm The analytical results of these samples are summarized in Table 4 The laboratory report and
chain-of-custody form are enclosed as Appendix H
1
' 5.0. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
5 1 HYDROCARBON-IlvIPACTED SOUL
' Based on the non-detection of hydrocarbons in samples NW-1 and in B2-5, the hydrocarbon plume
did not extend beyond the location ofNW-1 and 132-5 in the northeasterly direction The southern
t
