k%j KLEINFELDER
1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
' Jordan Real Estate owns a former gasoline service station located at 298 West Grantline
Road in Tracy, California. During tank removal and under the direction SJLHD staff, soil
and ground water samples were taken from each excavation using techniques not based on
accepted standards. The analytical results probably do not reflect actual site conditions,
' but indicated petroleum hydrocarbon compounds were present Because the analytical
results indicated petroleum hydrocarbon contamination was present, SJLHD requested
' Jordan Real Estate to investigate the extent of contamination Jordan Real Estate retained
Kleinfelder to assess the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons on the site
' In September 1988 Meinfelder collected a total of ten soil samples (four from the two
shallow excavations and two from each of the three conngs produced during installation of
' the three monitoring wells), and a total of three water samples (one from each of the
monitoring wells). Analytical results from the soil sample collected in MW-3 at 4 to 4 5
feet indicated that TPH, ethyl benzene, and xyIene were present. Contaminants were not
detected in the remaining soil samples Slight concentrations of TPH, xylene, and EDB
were detected in ground water at MW-3 only Coliform bacteria were detected in all three
' wells, with the concentration being highest in MW-1
A ground water flow direction was calculated from water level data and indicates that the
ground water flows from south to north beneath the site at a gradient of 0 265 percent
' Therefore, MW-1 appears to be an upgradient well
' Based on the findings of this phase of work, the impact to ground water appears to be
minor except for EDB which was detected at concentrations exceeding the state action
' level at MW-3. A second round of ground water sampling should be performed to confirm
this. Soil contamination was only found in the area north of the small excavation
Kleinfelder recommends that the extent of this contamination should be assessed
145-88-201.3 1
