KLEINFELDER
2 INTRODUCTION
' This report presents the results of a preliminary site assessment conducted at the Jordan
Real Estate site in Tracy, California (refer to Plate 1). The property is the location of
previously operating gasoline service station. An office/service garage and canopy are
structures still remaining on the site (refer to Plate 2)
' 2.1 BACKGROUND AND SITE DESCRIPTION
1 The Jordan Real Estate property is located on the southeast corner of Parker Avenue and
Grantluie Road, 298 Grantline Road, Tracy, California (Plate 1) This site is located in the
portion of Tracy shown on the Union Island United States Geodetic Survey 7 5 minute
quadrangle, in T2S, R5E, Section 16
The property had been operated as a gasoline service station from approximately 1960
through 1980 On April 5, 1988, four unused underground storage tanks were removed
This operation left two shallow excavations located along the north side of the building
' (Plate 2). The smaller excavation located on the northwest end of the building is
designated Tank Excavation A, and the other excavation on the northeast end of the
building is designated Tank Excavation B (Plates 2 & 3) Although product had been
' removed from the tanks approximately 10 years earlier, petroleum odors were noted in the
soil during tank removal. Soil and ground water samples were collected for laboratory
' analysis when the tanks were removed. Collection of the samples was not conducted in
accordance with accepted standard of care and in the opinion of Kleinfelder, consultant for
' Jordan Real Estate, the resulting analyses are not an accurate reflection of soil or ground
water conditions at the site Analytical results of these soil and water samples indicated
' contamination was present within the excavations. Based on these analyses, the San
Joaquin Local Health District (SJLHD) requested the site owner to investigate the site for
soil and ground water contamination
1
Kleinfelder was retained by Jordan Real Estate to assess the possible soil and ground water
' contamination at the site Kleinfelder held activities occurred between September 14 and
September 22, 1988
' 145-88-2013 2
