T] KLEiNFELDER
'
Borings, Plate 5 throw 7 in Appendix B. A co of the Unified Soils Classification
g PP PY
System, Plate 4, is included in Appendix B.
4.3 GROUNDWATER ASSESSMENT
Monitoring wells locations were selected based upon evaluation of the regional and nearby
' site specific ground water flow direction, and the location of the underground storage tanks
previously on this site. The three monitoring wells were installed to monitor ground water
' quality and to enable calculation of a site specific shallow ground water gradient The
locations are shown on Plate 2. The position of MW-2 had to be shifted from immediately
' north of the large excavation to its present location because overhead wires interfered with
drilling
' 4 3.1 MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION
' Three 2-inch diameter monitoring wells constructed of threaded schedule 40 PVC were
installed in, 8-inch diameter soil bonngs on September 14 and September 15, 1988 Each
well was secured inside a sealed and locked well cover set flush to the ground surface The
monitoring well construction details and lithology log descriptions are shown on Plates 5
through 10 in Appendix B Appendix D contains a general discussion of monitoring well
' installation
' 4.3.2 MONITORING WELL DEVELOPMENT
' Monitoring well development occurred on September 19, 1988 The ground water
monitoring wells were developed to draw sediment from the formation into and out of the
' well and to set the filter pack. Refer to Appendix D for information on procedures that
were used.
' 4.3.3 MONITORING WELL SAMPLING
' The ground water monitoring wells were sampled on September 21, 1988 to characterize
the ground water quality Agtlun the site boundaries Water samples from the three
' monitoring wells were analyzed for TPH by EXTN GC-FID, volatile aromatics BTEX by
EPA Method 8020 and coliforms Bacterial analyses were included because the monitoring
wells are within 50 feet of sewage lines In addition, the samples from MW-2 and MW-3
' 145-88-2013 5
