1 KLEINFELDER 5 PROPOSED SAMPLING PLAN This sampling plan has been formulated guidance document "Regional Board P gp using the c� t Staff Recommendations for Initial Evaluation and Investigation of Underground Tanks," June 2, 1988, prepared by staff of the North Coast, San Francisco Bay, and Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Boards. One important concept in this document is that data from ground water investigations carried out at adjacent sites can be used to ,justify scaling down the size of a proposed monitoring network Since information on ground water depth and flow direction is available from the Food and ' Liquor site, only two ground water monitoring points are proposed for the Jordan site ' 5 1 SITE PREPARATION A backhoe will be brought on site to prepare the pits for soil and ground water sampling First, the floors of the pits will be excavated to a depth of b feet and a hole will be dug in the center of each pit to a depth of approximately 2 feet below the water table Then, soil ' at the north side of each pit will be removed to a depth just above the water table forming a pad where a well point can be installed ' 5.2 SOIL SAMPLING ' Three pairs of soil samples will be taken from each pit A pair will consist of a sample taken at 1 foot below the ground surface and another taken at a depth of 5 feet. These ' samples will be taken from the sides of the pit, above the water table using a backhoe A PID will be used to detect any hot spots that should be sampled Samples will be collected rusing a brass tube and will be submitted under chain-of-custody to a certified laboratory and analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (by EXTN/GC-FID) and volatile aromatics ' (benzene, ethyl benzene, toluene, and xylene) by EPA Method 8020 The backhoe bucket and sampling equipment will be decontaminated between samplings be steam cleaning r113-88-915 7
