Page 1 oft
Lori Duncan [EH]
From: Chevlen, Benjamin [Benjamin.Chevlen@stantec.com]
Sent: Friday, April 02, 2010 9:50 AM
To: Lori Duncan [EH]
Subject: RE: 4707 Pacific
Lori - I've sent an email to TRC requesting clarification on their groundwater purging and sampling procedures; I'll
let you know what I hear. I also requested that during the next sampling event, that they measure DTW in the
wells surrounding what they identify as "VW-2". I instructed them that if what they believe to be"VW-5" has a
total depth significantly greater than 30 feet, then "VW-5" is actually"VW-2." Hopefully we will be able to clarify
this issue.
I also reviewed the historical soil data and agree with you; it is unfortunate soil samples were not collected during
the installation of the sparge wells. I feel a confirmation soil boring in the vicinity of VW-2/5/7 is completely
appropriate. It sounds like a new letter is going to be issued regarding the site; if you would like to discuss the
site status some more before issuing the letter, please call me at your convenience.
Benjamin Chevlen, P.G.
Senior Geologist
Stantec
Ph: (805)230-1266 Ext.293
Fx: (805)230-1277
Cell: (916)425-4849
beniamin.chevien@stantec.com
stantec.com
The content of this email is the confidential property of Stantec and should not be copied, modified, retransmitted,or used for
any purpose except with Stantec's written authorization. This makes no sense, it was built with a screen interval
from 25-50 feet bsg. Unless the well is damaged, there should be plenty of water in it to sample. Vapor well VW-5
was built with a screen interval from 6-31 feet bsg, and I see it is not even listed in the groundwater analytical
tables (which makes sense). The maps indicate these three wells, VW-2, VW-5 and VW-7, are located very close
together; perhaps VW-2 and VW-5 have been mis-labeled? The few times there was data provided for VW-2 the
concentrations were fairly high. VW-2 should be sampled routinely, it would provide important data on the water
quality of the shallow water above VW-7, which has a totally submerged screen only 5-feet in length. It would also
help'connect'the groundwater data from the VW-2/5/7 area to the VW-4 area, as all the wells near the east side
of the site have such different screen intervals from VW-7. I cannot tell from the groundwater sampling field notes
how they purge VW-7, all it says is 'sub',which I presume means submersible pump, but there is no indication
where they set the pump. Is it at the bottom in the screen interval, or do they evacuate the whole water column?
4/2/2010
