t
Work Plan Evaluation of Soil and Ground eater December 4, 1989
Unocal Station No. 6981, Stockton, California AGS 38032-3W
r
SUMMARY OF WORK
the work tasks to evaluate soil and groundwater conditions at the Unocal site includes the
following:
o Update and revise the Site Safety Plan.
o Provide liaison with the San Joaquin County Public Health Services,
Environmental Health Division(SJCPHS),to acquire permits for drilling and
inspection of well construction.
Q o Drill five soil borings to approximately 60 feet below surface grade to
construct monitoring wells and to evaluate the vertical extern,.of suspected soil
contamination. During.the drilling of three of the borings, a 5-foot-long
continuius.core sampler will be used to provide a continuous log (provided
that samples can be recovered) of the soil encountered between the 5-foot
+: undisturbed sample intervals.
o Collect and classify relatively undisturbed soil samples taken at 5-foot intervals
for possible laboratory analysis.
o Construct ground-water monitoring wells in each of the five boreholes onsite.
The wells will be constructed using 4-inch inner-diameter polyvinyl chloride
(PVC) casing. One monitoring well will be constructed with continuous
wrapped screen for use as a pumping well if necessary.
o Develop and purge the wells and collect groundwater samples.
o Submit two soil samples from each boring for chemical analyses. Soil samples
submitted for analysis will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as
gasoline(TPH)using Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 8015
with EPA extraction Method 5030, and for benzene, toluene, ethvlbenzene,
and xylene (BTEX) using EPA Method 8020.
o Submit one groundwater sample from each monitoring well for chemical
analysis. Samples will be analyzed TPH using EPA Method 8015 with EPA
extraction Method 5030, BTEX using EPA Method 602. Four of the ground
12
' Applied G&OSYSImS
