f
-
Work Plan Evaluation of Soil and Ground Water December 4, 1989
Unocal Station No. 6981, Stockton, California AGS 38032-3W
r--neability zone 5 feet thick or greater is encotntered, the baring will be terminated.
Cuttings generated during drilling will be left at the site on plastic sheeting and covered
with plastic sheeting.
Soil Safli ing
Soil samples for possible iaboratory analysis will be collected at 5-foot intervals from the
borings, between the continuous core intervals. These soil samples will be collected using
a California-teodified split-spoon sampler equipped with clean brass sleeves. The samples
will be collected by advancing the boring to a point Just above the sampling depth, then
driving the sampler into the native soil through the hollow center of the auger. The .
sampler will be driven 18 inches with a standard 140-pound hammer repeatedly dropped
30 inches. The: number of blows required to drive the sampler each successive 6-inch
interval will be counted and recorded to give an indication of soil consistency. Examples
of a Field Boring Log form and the Boring Log plate used in our final report are included
in the Appendix to this Work Plan. _
During tip. drilling of three of the borings, a 5-foot long core barrel will be used to
continuously core the soil boring between the inte:vai at which relatively undisturbed sail
samples are collected (approximately each 5-focit interval). However, use of this sampling
technique will be used at the discretion of the site geologist and driller. This sampling
`f 17
