Work Flan Evaluation of Soil and Ground Water December 4, 1989
Unr;cai Station No. 6981, Stockton, California AGS 38032-3W
technique may be terminated if very loose sandy dry soil or loose saturated sands are
encountered. These types of soil can cause the sampler to become stuck in the auger. The }
continuous care will provide a continuous log of the soil encountered, which can be used
to evaluate the vertical extent of soil contamination more precisely and to observe small
In addition, a continuous log
vertical changes in site soil conditions. can be used when
bearing zones that are less than S feet thick.and
designing monitoring well screens in water
can allow a more precise evaluation of the vertical ;hange in relative permeability of soil
assist in the selection of remediation alternatives,
beneath the site, which can be used to
j if necessary.
k A sample from each interval where soil samples are collected for possible laboratory
analyses will be analyzed with a PID. These devices are useful for evaluating relative
concentrations of hydrocarbon vapors, but cannot be used to measure levels of hydrocarbons
with the precision and accuracy of laboratory analysis.
Soil samples selected for chemical analysis will be quickly sealed with aluminum fail,Plastic
caps, and duck tape. The samples will then be labeled and placed in iced storage for
iransnort to the analytical laboratory for testing. Chain of Custody Records will be initiated
by the geologist in the field and will accompany the samples to the laboratory. Copies of
T — - —- - --- - -Chain-of - -- -- -
these records will be presented in our final report.
